What is an aphrodisiac fruit? It is any fruit that increases the sexual appetite. The name is an orientation of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love that arose from the bubbles of the sea when the god Cronos killed and castrated her father, throwing his genitals into the ocean. Stories and myths from the past have told us of different plants, spices, fruits, and foods that seemed to act as sexual stimulants. Together these compounds, in spite of their sources are recognized as aphrodisiacs, after the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite.

A lot of of these aphrodisiac fruits also have physically powerful effects and have been used in magic rituals to create contacts with gods, spirits, ancestors, past and future, during shamanic healing sessions, for prophecy, and to heal many diseases.


Catuaba is one of the most important aphrodisiacs that grow in rain forest and are known to be extremely effective against treatment of decreased libido and in some cases; it can also help men deal better with mild erectile dysfunction. Medically, the root and bark of Erythroxylum catuaba are used the most for the purpose of healing. In fact, this aphrodisiac has been a part of Brazilian treatments for centuries, especially in cases of sexual dysfunction. Unlike Tamamuri, which is an extremely tall tree, Catuaba is a short tree that produces orange and yellow blossoms. Men who are suffering from decreased libido are to drink a decoction of the tree’s bark. This mixture is believed to produce a strong aphrodisiacal effect.  In various cases, healthy men also take the drug as it is believed to increase sexual stamina, helping men enhance their performance in bed. Other medicinal uses of this drug include treatment of insomnia, memory loss and anxiety. The name catuaba is a Guarani word that means “what gives strength to the indian”.  In catuaba, a group of three alkaloids dubbed catuabine A, B and C are believed to enhance sexual function by stimulating the nervous system. Another study showed that catuaba extracts from Trichilia catigua were useful in preventing potentially lethal bacterial infections and HIV infection in mice.

Chasteberry has been used by men to cure erectile dysfunction and increase penis size for thousands of years.  Women find it helps with menstrual problems.   Studies suggest that Chasteberry may affect the dopamine levels.  Chasteberry  has been found to greatly increase Vitamin B-6.

Picho Huayo

Siparuna guianensis, more commonly known as picho huayo, is a common tree of the Amazon rainforest that is also known to grow in the Andes’s cloud forests. The tree’s intoxicating scent that makes it a wildly popular aphrodisiac. The leaves and fruit are the medicinally viable parts of the tree. The evocative lemony fragrance of the leaves and fruit are immensely popular when crushed into love potions. Men use the potion as an all-over body rub, which is believed to make them sexually irresistible. In some parts of the rainforest, the leaves are used in teas and ingested to treat high blood pressure and ease cold symptoms. The rainforest’s Kubeo Indians use the leaves to treat snakebites. The leaves of picho huayo also contain fever-reducing properties.

Schizandra Fruit

Schizandra Fruit can increase the body’s ability to cope with internal and external stress factors, and normalise the functions of the body. They help maintain the stable internal environment inside the body known as homeostasis.  The medicinal properties of jujube fruits have been known for a very long time. Countries like Korea and China use jujube fruits as traditional herbal medicines. These fruits are considered to have stress alleviating properties. Powdered jujube fruit is used by some people to to calm nerves and anxiety. It is a popular stress buster in many parts of the world and also known for its rejuvenating properties. It is considered good for clearing up skin. Jujube has anti-oxidant properties.

Source: Jujube is a deciduous shrub and is called Ziziphus zizyphus in Latin. It is mainly cultivated in China and Asia (Indo-Syrian belt). However, its natural spread is unknown due to high volumes of cultivation across the world.
